Краткое содержание:
Because he had promised to pay his bill at the mercantile by a certain date, when his paycheck is delayed from the mill, Charles has to take on extra jobs to earn enough to pay. He agrees to do some work at the Feed and Grain but one day, he falls from a tree and breaks some ribs. He had promised to have the F&G work done by a certain day or he’d give up his oxen. The day comes and the owner comes to get the oxen because Charles isn’t yet well enough to finish the job which he is supposed to finish in the next few hours. Seeing that he tries to do it anyway, Laura and Mary, follow him and try to do it for him. When the other men of the town see the girls doing the work, they all come and pitch in. The man apologizes for not giving Charles more time.
